Summary
Ryland Grace knew he wasn’t a typical alpha. He wasn’t imposing, aggressive (with a couple exceptions proving the rule, he supposed) or dominant in his relationships (especially, ahem, the intimate ones). Sure, he did get protective of people he cared about, his kids especially, but not to a degree as great as any textbook alpha would.
So he knew it for a fact – Ryland Grace was not a typical alpha.
And then Simon came along and turned everything Ryland thought he knew about himself upside down.
That was what was going through Ryland’s mind as he pinned an Eridian to the ground, a deep, guttural growl spilling out over his lips as he bared his teeth, standing between the Eridian and Simon, who was huddling in on himself a few feet away, breathing heavily in distress.
Which only served to make Ryland’s grip on the Eridian tighter.

Summary
Simon looks into the light.
He is spared from The Quiet Rapture but his experience in the Iron Lung have left him changed. Touch starved and lonely, he meets the only other human who could understand.
Neither of them know what they’re doing. This is Grace’s first time being in love (and therefore lust) with someone and Simon has never been allowed to be vulnerable with another man.
Also: Grace accidentally triggers Simon to produce eggs and after a brief freak out, they both have a wonderful time exploring Simon’s body.

Rocky sat in his xenonite ball, his legs tucked up and asleep in an attempt to speed up healing from an accident. Rocky is asleep. Rocky is sleeping and injured and Grace's only way of effectively communicating with unknown Eridians is broken.
"Aw shoot! This absolutely can get worse!"

Summary
Sometimes a family is a pair of Eridians, their two humans, and the extra consciousness of an eldritch monster one of them carries around.
Alternatively: Grace and Simon find out that a scrap of the Eel's consciousness is in Simon's head and likes to come out at inopportune moments. They proceed to figure out how to live with this via trial and error. Rocky and Adrian watch on in horror.

Grace pauses. He wonders if he could have possibly heard what Simon just said correctly. He decides that really, there aren't many other sentences that sound like I have teeth on my stomach. "What?"
or; it isn't strange to request to examine your friend's unusual biology, up-close and personal. As long as you make it perfectly clear that it's all for science, that is.
