Sometimes on good days, when his dad wasn’t screaming and shouting at everything that moved, he’d put Bob in the truck and drive out on the 72 and go fishing with him in the evening. Flashlights in the dark, streaking dim across expanses of black water, muggy air, mosquitoes. Little red eyes looking back out of the water. They’d sit and guess how big the gators were from the distance between the eyes. You’d better watch yourself out here, Bobby, his dad would say sometimes, and pretend to start to push him forward over the boardwalk with a big hand splayed on his back. And he’d laugh and laugh, like it was funny.
Bob had never thought it was funny. But he’d learned early on to laugh along.

When Bob tries out a new solution for his wellbeing, he's advised by Barnes to keep to a schedule and avoid any variables. But this means pulling away from the New Avengers (and Yelena) for a while, and even though the results are fantastic, all that pent-up need for connection and affection has to go somewhere when the adjustment period is over.

Over the course of six months, they write back and forth to each other across the ocean, and Yelena finds herself feeling closer to Bob than ever, even when he's thousands of miles away.

Summary
Bob is easy when it comes to Yelena. She says "Jump!" and he'll immediately ask "How high?" and then not wait for an answer and before jumping as high as he possibly can.
Some—Alexei and John and Ava, and Bucky probably thinks so, even if he doesn't say anything out loud—would say he has some sort of feelings for her and sure, maybe that's kind of true, but it's more than that. He trusts her, appreciates her. When he's forced to attend press conference after press conference with the New Avengers, when the guilt and shame he has to deal with now gets too heavy, when he's forced to once again give himself to endless experiments and tests under the guise of caution and safety, she's by his side.
Yelena's always there— dependable and kind and considerate.
Bob would bring down the moon if she wanted him to, he'd fight off an oncoming asteroid with his bare hands if she asked.
Basically, he'd do anything for her.
Well, anything but tag along with her to her unofficial office— a random Russian bathhouse in Brighton Beach that she's been going to for almost a year now.
