    It was a startling realization, Regulus thought as he drew his curtains and crawled under the blankets of his bed. He had been seeking out life from others, listening for their noise and the light that was sure to follow, but never realizing he was draining them. Regulus had no noise to offer himself, he had so little life and light inside himself, so he thought it was harmless to enjoy the bits shared by those around him. He felt the laughter and words wrap around him, letting him know it was okay to not have a shield, made his silence feel less like an armor plate and more like an open door to let in more; more life, more light.

    He just never realized that by doing so, he was taking what wasn’t his. He was sapping away the laughter and noise and lights, never able to offer his own to return what he had taken. He just took, and took, and took. And he never realized it.

    OR: Regulus learned to be quiet was to be safe, James was born with too many words - this is how they balance out. I saw a random tumblr post, got this little snippet stuck in my head, and came up with... this thing. It's kind of misunderstandings but largely gentle angst with plenty of fluff and the age old trope of opposites attract
