“Great… um… listen, I’m really grateful for you Doctor Santos and Doctor Whitaker, for saving my life but I really don’t have the funds to really stay here, so can you get the discharge papers for me to leave?” Peter pleads with his hands, only to be met by two doctors staring at him dumbfoundedly.
“You seriously think we’d let Spiderman himself die with tons of hospital debt?” Dr. Santos asks him, exasperated.
“Well, Spiderman is being killed with rent and student debt so hospital bills won’t be new.” Peter lightly jokes, earning a snort from Whitaker.

"The headmaster reached out to me.” Jean hesitated. “He says it’s for kids…kids like me.”
“You mean—” It was a little hard to concentrate on Jean’s words when he was being swung wildly by Scorpion’s tail.
“Weirdos. Freaks. Kids with abilities that scare the people around them.”
That got his attention. He stomped hard on the tail, forcing it to let him go. “You are not a freak, Jean.”
“You know what I mean,” she sighed. “Well, anyway, I wanted to…to ask if you would come visit the school with me. Just like…check it out. Not that you have to. I can go by myself, if you’re busy.”
Peter heard the note of anxiety underneath her words. He should’ve realized what she needed earlier. A girl with her past, going to a new place, with people always interested in what she could do…
He slingshot himself towards Scorpion, landing a kick that knocked him out cold. He mentally filed away a reminder to call Detective DeWolff to pick him up later. “Of course I’ll come, Jean.”

Summary
In the wake of Peter Parker erasing himself from the memories of his friends and family, not to mention the entire universe, he's doing as well as can be expected. Three years later, he's attending ESU, trying to work three jobs alongside getting two degrees, and still going out as Spider-Man. He's fine, really. Everything is just fine. That is until a run-in with the law and a DNA test shatter the carefully constructed facade that Peter had made his life.

“Your blood matches a sample the FBI has on file from a kidnapping case.” Agent Carisi opens the thicker file. “A four-year-old boy taken while on vacation with his father about twenty years ago.”
Peter’s breathing speeds up.
“Authorities took fingerprint and DNA samples from the boy’s room, and at the father’s behest, we continue to test them against any that are placed within any system we have access to.”
A piece of paper with lab results lays atop the file. It gets picked up and placed on the table.
