“So why haven’t I crossed over, then?” Shane asks.
“Because you are not finished here,” Ilya says. “Just like me.”
“The fuck does that mean?”
Ilya’s close-lipped smile doesn’t reach his eyes. Which Shane notices are a greenish-gold that makes him think of gemstones.
An absurd thing to focus on right now, when Shane is currently in the middle of what is obviously a complete and total mental breakdown.
“Just what I said. You are not finished here.”
Shane sits down on the curb, facing away from him. “I just want to go home.”
“You can’t. You are dead.”
“Eat shit. I’m not dead.”
He would know for sure if he was dead.
Right?
Ilya laughs. “Well, not technically, no. You are not alive anymore, but you are also not dead… is like, undead, but also... not.”
