“……忘了吧，”阿德勒说，转身就走，“我要走了。”他侧脸的线条冷硬，乌尔里希突然觉得，自己离他比之前任何时候都遥远。阿德勒总是蜷缩着身体，肩膀紧绷，嘴唇紧闭，眉毛平板。乌尔里希从未见过他如此毫无防备，也未见过他如此毫无保留的情绪表达。
当然，除了有一次。那是在两天前，当阿德勒处于快乐的顶点。也许正是在这些时刻，乌尔里希开始解读他。

乌尔里希点头。阿德勒呛出一阵歇斯底里的笑声。“这是什么——这是某种意识唤醒者好奇的实验吗？乌尔里希，我不是你的宠物人类，或者你最新的慈善项目。你甚至有——？”
阿德勒神经质地猛地一抓头发。铁磁流体在不确定的等待中微微荡起涟漪。
“所以……你不愿意？”
阿德勒又停顿了片刻。他嘴唇发干。这一定有些悲剧性的误解，比如说乌尔里希又在学习人道主义，而这是他下一次笨拙的尝试——但无论如何，阿德勒是一只心怀渴望且饥渴已久的狗。“好吧，”他生硬地回答乌尔里希，“那就这么做吧。”
