But before he can ask he hears Chimney saying they’re out of time and yeah, Buck could have told them that. He hears them talking about lifting the truck off him and hope slips further away. Even though the pain and confusion he knows that the ladder truck weighs a solid 25 tonnes and it’s going to take a damn miracle to get it off him.
Tears leaking from his eyes, Buck pants and blurts out, “hey, Shan. If I don’t make it, can I stick around too. Haunt Eddie’s pretty ass with you,” when the first try to lift it off him fails.
(or, in my mind feels like a foreign land Buck does get crushed under the ladder truck and talks with Shannon, leaving Eddie to explain after they get to the hospital.)

Summary
Buck’s breath catches in his throat when he opens the book to a small stack of photographs.
With shaking hands he begins to look through them, slowly, one by one. They’re all of him - all of little boy Buck, with his big blue eyes, and his curly blond hair, and his strawberry-pink birthmark. They’re all just a little bit out of focus, too. A little bit blurred. Taken by the unsteady hands of a kid who had to grow up too fast, instead of the parents that were supposed to raise both of them.
He doesn’t remember most of the pictures being taken, but he knows that it’s true - knows that Maddie took all of these. There’s too much love in them, too much time, and care, and effort, for any of them to have been taken by his parents.

The next one came nearly an hour later.
“Buck!” Eddie hissed down the phone. “Are you serious right now? I – shit Buck! Thank you. Thank you so – god you are so… oh fuck. I – god damn it Buck!”
Buck laughed at that one, shaking his head.

Eddie sticks his head back in the door. “Oh, sorry,” he says, still half-distracted as his self-imposed time schedule comes crashing down on him. He approaches Buck at the counter, and before Buck can reach over and snag the lunch box, Eddie cranes his neck to drop a swift kiss on Buck’s lips.
“See you after work!” Eddie calls over his shoulder before he’s out the door, leaving Buck in the kitchen still clutching a lunch box in his hands.
Buck blinks. His lips tingle. “Bye,” he says to the empty house.
