"I can't fix it if you don't memorize the formula," Jungwon whispered. Sunghoon's eyes dropped to Jungwon's lips for a fraction of a second before meeting his eyes again. "Help me memorize it, then."
Park Sunghoon, the university's hockey captain, isn't actually failing Calculus II. But when deliberately bombing a midterm is the only way to get the fiercely intelligent, organized Economics major assigned as his peer tutor, it's a sacrifice he's more than willing to make.
Yang Jungwon just wants to survive the semester, keep his 4.0 GPA intact, and avoid campus gossip at all costs. He doesn't have time for a supposedly clueless athlete who keeps buying him coffee, invading his personal space, and offering up his umbrella in the rain.
It really is a flawless plan. Well...until it isn't.

He softens his voice to the register that has never yet failed him. “Please. It is only Sunghoon. He amuses me and I cannot sleep, and I am wretched. Truly I am. Look at me, I am a wretched thing tonight and I want cheering, and there is not another soul in this castle who can do it. You needn't fear for my name. Bring him quietly by the back stair and no one shall be the wiser, and I shall remember your kindness. I always remember, don't I?”
Jongseong does nothing but stare at him for a long minute. Then he sighs from somewhere very deep. “You always get your way, my lord,” he mutters but his voice is laced with grim affection. “It will be the ruin of the pair of us.”

Jaeyun. Sunghoon mouths the word. The word seems to want to be in his mouth, and once it is in his mouth, it sits there cozy and warm.
“Jaeyun?” He says it out loud, the name, and he gets no response. The body is fully unconscious now but still breathing. Sunghoon looks at him, at Jaeyun, and he understands that there’s no one else here, that there’s no boat that has come in, no shipwreck.
I cannot leave this here, he thinks. I cannot leave this here, and I cannot bring any other person near it, because if anyone else came near it I don’t know what would happen, what they would do, and I do not want to know.
And then there is another thought underneath all of these. This washed up onto my sand. This is for me.
Or: For six years, the sea has been Park Sunghoon’s only company. Then she gives him Jaeyun.

Wonwoo had been in the circus for a long time, though no one could tell Mingyu exactly how long.
