Summary
Miya did not have a normal life growing up. Even as a toddler, his parents neglected him. It only got worse when he started getting really good skateboarding and Adam became his teacher. After some incidents come into the light, Miya gets put into a new home. When he finds out that Joe and Cherry are his new guardians, he doesn't fully trust them. Especially because they try to make him regress to help him recover from his trauma. He needs to learn to accept and trust his new caregivers, that they will treat him with love and won't hurt him like his parents and Adam did before.
TLDR; Miya gets put into the care of Cherry and Joe after an incident with his parents and Adam. As his new guardians they try to help him recover from his trauma through age regression. Miya is defiant at first, but will soon learn to accept it.

Summary
After witnessing Kaede's execution, Shuichi is distraught. He knows he should regress to cope with what happened, Monokuma even supplied him with little items (probably to cause conflict knowing him), but he just can't bring himself to. He is plagued with guilt and doesn't feel worthy of regressing. Only when he realizes he is not alone, that he has other people there for him, is when he finally lets himself relax.
