After seeing his dad at the hospice, Tim decides to tell Genny about everything. It does not go well, so he seeks comfort in Lucy. (Chenford Bingo 2026: cheating)
___“Are you okay?” Lucy asks quietly.
She asked him this before, a few hours ago, but now he doesn’t trust himself to speak. So all he does is shake his head as he stares at her, jaw working, his fists clenched so hard his nails are biting into his palms. But the pain is welcome; it makes him feel something else.
“What do you want to do?”
What is there to do? Go home, have a beer, go to sleep, and then return to his life tomorrow, knowing his dad never cared about them. That his wife and his son and his daughter meant less to him than his mistress did. And what he doesn’t understand is why Genny doesn’t get it, why she keeps making excuses for the man, why she refuses to see. He knows that his mom shares his view, that she does see, but they don’t ever talk about his dad, because she doesn’t need the reminder and… Alone, he realises. It makes him feel alone.

Tim has to confront not only Lucy’s choices but his own buried feelings before it’s too late.
