Summary
Dickie flinches when he hears the tell-tale click of Alfred’s shoes tapping against the hardwood. Foolishly, he hopes the butler doesn’t notice his many misdeeds. He braces himself, not daring to sniffle again when he’s close enough to hear. He only hopes the snot doesn’t dribble down his face.
Alfred tuts upon seeing the sorry state before him. “Master Richard, I am rather dismayed to see the lack of progress on your supper.” His voice is clipped, unafraid to show his open displeasure.
Dickie tells himself that it’s better this way. It’s better that the food remains untouched, untarnished, than for him to get sick all over the table. At least like this it can be reused, reheated and given to someone with a body that works properly. Maybe one of the actual Wayne sons would enjoy it, if they ever visited.
He couldn’t digest it anyway.

Summary
Grace is precious to me. He's supposedly over 300 years old and has the alien equivalent of more degrees and qualifications than any human has had, ever in our entire history. He's a little neurotic, loves to go on tangents that devolve into untranslatable rants, and makes a ton of stupid puns. He's constantly telling me to chill out and give him space, but somehow ends up pressed against the xenonite by my side every night. He probably would end up cuddling me while I slept if it weren't for the fact that he's unable to actually physically touch me.
I don't know how Adrian and I are going to protect him from all the evils of Earth, but I know for damn sure we can at least do our best to ensure he makes it there with us alive to find out.

“Not — not understand,” Rocky continues, a little higher now, his body shuddering. “Try Vℓ times, all failure failure failure. Eridian mating sometimes fail, but not this much. This much unprecedented. Thought location, temperature, time of year problems in previous attempts — fixed all, Grace know Rocky and Adrian work to fix all, and still failure, still.”
Grace fidgets with his hands, stretching each knuckle and palming the free edge of each nail, to keep from throwing himself onto Rocky and howling like an animal.
(Because somewhere along the way, Rocky and Adrian's wish for kids had become Grace's own, too.)
OR: Rocky and Adrian's eggs keep dying long before they hatch, and no one knows why. Grace — who definitely doesn't see himself as a parent to those hatchlings, how stupid and impossible would that be?! — has the normal reaction, which is inventing gene therapy from scratch to help the next egg survive.
