All in all, the confirmation that Road Runner cares about him, misses him when he's gone, sees him as a friend—it sparked new purpose in the Coyote, one as a different kind of hunger, of want, for, in a way—he already has Road Runner. Road Runner is his purpose…and Wile E. is Road Runner's.
Despite all he still represses and all he has understood, it seems that, in the end, he did get what he truly wanted. Perhaps they both did.
Things were looking bright. At last, Wile E. Coyote was finally free from ACME's cursed shadow.
Or so he thought.
Just as the dust begins to settle after the trial, an attempt on their lives forces Wile E. and Road Runner to seek help from their human friends once again.

The coyote leaned in close to the Road Runner. He sniffed the air, nostrils widening and taking in the smell of his conquest. He dragged his tongue across his lips and brought his muzzle close to the juncture between the Road Runner’s neck and head. He was close to his ear now and he could hear every snuffle and snort as Wile E. desperately nuzzled close into his feathers. He was so close the Road Runner knew he could hear the slamming of his heart against his chest and the pump of fresh blood underneath his fingers.
Or, the Road Runner loses the game and is surprised by what satisfies Wile E. Coyote's hunger.

The sarcophagus was gone when they returned to Grünewald. The charred corpse of Herr Knock laid exposed and discarded in its place. The three of them made quick work of giving last rites and burying the remains which crumbled to ash when tossed into its dark pit within the earth.
No sign of Orlok or Ellen was found.
Thomas is still uncertain if it is despair or relief he's felt since the discovery. His mind is a whirlwind, his emotions a roaring ocean. What Thomas does know is this: that Orlok lives and so, too, must Ellen — in some way, some manner — and depending on that manner, Professor Franz and Dr. Sievers would murder her the same as the count.
A sort of madness sinks its teeth into him as he faces this understanding; Thomas is aware, distantly, that his thoughts turn ever more monstrous.
