Summary
Three years after the probes carrying Taumoeba and Dr. Ryland Grace's final message arrive on Earth, humanity launches an interstellar spaceship with a brand new mission. Thirty-six crew members (including two graduates of a certain San Franciscan junior high school) travel to the star 40-Eridani to make friendly contact with the Eridians and bring them the alien life form from Tau Ceti-E that can save their star if Dr. Grace's sacrifice failed.
Grace, now fifty-seven years old, is just trying to balance his life as a teacher while no longer being the only human on the planet anymore. It's a big adjustment, but Rocky and the Terra's Grace crew are going to make sure he's well taken care of.

“Surprising no one, I told you so,” Donnie says, but Leo says it at the same time in a high-pitched mockery of his voice. Donnie scowls and announces, for probably the hundredth time in his life, “I should have absorbed you in the womb.”
And like every other time, Leo dissolves into a fit of giggles. Mission accomplished, or something, Donnie leaves him to it and joins Mikey in the kitchen.
“You didn’t share a womb,” Mikey says. “You didn’t have a womb. You had an egg. Two different eggs from two different turtles. You didn’t even hatch at the same time.”
“I would have found a way,” Donnie says solemnly.

In hindsight, Grace could very easily realize just how he accidently led Rocky down the path of thinking that humans were amphibians.
However, in his defense when you spend almost 4 years in a cramped spaceship with no proper showers or baths- the idea of going swimming starts to sound absolutely heavenly.
Otherwise known as: 7 times that the Eridians thought that Grace was an amphibian, and the one time he finally found out why there are so many water features in his enclosure.
