Summary
For once, Rumi finally felt like she wasn’t a mistake and deserved happiness. Deserved Mira and Zoey.
Unfortunately, the years of hating herself, the guilt, the shame are sometimes not so easy to block out no matter how happy she is. Now she found herself glued in front of the bathroom mirror, hands tightly gripping the counter so hard that her knuckles turn white. She doesn’t recognize the monster staring back at her, yet that’s all she can think about.
She’s a monster. A mistake.
However, Mira and Zoey don’t let her think like that about herself for long. They help Rumi see that she is worthy of love.

Summary
After a rabies exposure, the virus must travel to the brain before it can cause symptoms. Therefore, the incubation period may last for weeks to months depending on several factors such as location of the exposure site (in relation to the brain) and age; in extremely rare cases it could be dormant for years.
Rumi thinks about this one frequently, lying in bed at night; the idea that you could be wasting away at any moment in your life. A poison in your veins with you none the wiser– like a ticking bomb just waiting to go off.
You would need to get bit or scratched first, of course, and if you took the right precautions you would likely never know. And Rumi has never been bitten anyway. She’s fine.

Summary
Her arms break out in goosebumps, dread settling deep into the pit of her stomach, as the figure stays deathly still, the head hidden under the fabric tilting to the side in question as it watches her. She feels her heart begin to pound rapidly in her chest, her eyes staying fixed on the figure as she begins to walk back up the street to her moms house, her pulse stuttering when she realises the person is following her.

“Rumi! Calm down!” Mira swallowed hard. She tried to be as gentle as she could while applying pressure to her back. She couldn’t even imagine how much it hurt. “We’re right here! Just try to breathe!”
“We’re not going to leave your side!” The tears in Zoey’s eyes started to trail down her cheeks. She pressed her hand with a new towel up against her friend’s thigh first. “We’re right here! Just-” She cut herself off as she went to place her hand on Rumi’s arm. She froze with her facial expressions falling.
Tears started to cascade down Rumi’s face as she watched Zoey’s eyes widen, her pupils dilate and her whole body pull back just slightly.
The rapper’s gaze had fallen onto her exposed demon patterns.
Rumi let out a long trembling breath followed by a harsh whine.
She had to cover them up.

Jinu's soul has long since lost its humanity. There is no kindness nor empathy that remains. Instead, there is hatred fueled by shame that he directs towards this generation of Hunters.
