For six months, they must endure a carefully staged civility that the wizarding press can interpret however it likes: Ministry events, art gallery openings, public coffee dates in Diagon Alley. Harry agrees because he owes a life-debt. Draco agrees because he has no better options, and because it offers the rehabilitation his reputation badly needs.

And so begins the infamous eighth-year game of gay chicken in which Harry is the only person playing, but is prepared to win.
Draco thinks death by Potter is approaching. Probably sooner rather than later.
Ron, of course, is playing chess. And he is several moves ahead of everyone.

But Harry doesn’t know any of this. So when he sees Malfoy in a shop of charmed necklaces, he immediately tries his best to uncover Malfoy’s machinations.
