When students at school start growing suspicious of Danny's secret identity during senior year, he hatches a plan that he's confident will protect his secrets:
Step 1: Use the Ghost Catcher to split himself, but somehow stay sane on both sides
Step 2: Go to a party as Fenton and conveniently fly past as Phantom with as many witnesses to both as possible

Hawthorne glances at the phone. Maybe Anthony is imagining it as this is one of the few times Hawthorne is this open, almost vulnerable and he doesn’t want to ruin it but, in the back of his mind, he thinks pathetically that he wishes to cup Hawthorne's face—smoothing the furrow of his brow as they both smoked.
“Even if the truth is ugly?” Hawthorne asks barely above a whisper.
“Especially so.” Anthony responds easily.
“You say that but what if I’m the thing that ruins you?”
“I doubt that.”
“I’m full of surprises mate.”
“That doesn’t scare me.”
“You’re insufferable.” Hawthorne replies without his usual sarcasm or confidence.
“Can I hit record?”
“I was right. Insufferable.”

They crossed the street as if the devil were chasing them and Hawthorne did not look, did not glance at the defeated look on Tony’s face. Not him, nope.
“Hawthorne, tell me what you know. I know you know something, a lot of things. Anything, please.”
Maybe it was the barrage of questions. Maybe it was how consistent and annoying Tony was with asking said questions. Maybe it was the uncertain and pathetic lilt to his voice that made him reconsider. Maybe it was nothing and Hawthorne simply took pity on the man.
It was not that.
