Summary
Buck never expected to become a father, especially not to Theo, but Buck takes him in anyway, determined to give the grieving four-year-old a stable home. But it’s not easy to be a father, and Buck feels that he has to ask for help at every simple turn. Overwhelmed and terrified of being a burden to his family, Buck turns to an anonymous online parenting forum for answers.
Meanwhile, Eddie is quietly unraveling, trying to be the perfect father, the perfect man, the perfect everything. He's spent years performing for everyone around him, and he's exhausted. An anonymous forum gives him a place to be honest about who he really is.
A story about the complexities of parenthood, both solo and shared.“We brought cake, Aunt Maddie!” Theo announces happily. “But it’s from a box. We usually bake the cake.” His little brow furrows, and if Buck isn't mistaken, the boy sounds genuinely offended by this deviation from their usual baking activities.
Maddie laughs softly, taking the box and pulling the boy into a brief, warm hug. “Thank you, darling. Any cake is good cake.”
“No, that’s wrong,” Theo corrects her.

Buck swallows a laugh. “Actually, You is a Y.”
Robbie scoffs. “You is a idiot.”
Buck’s eyes twinkle. “You are an idiot. Offend me all you want, sure –but don’t commit war crimes against grammar.”
“Language,” Bobby says, sharply, though there’s no real heat in it.
Brook tilts her head, totally unbothered. “...Technically, he was correcting language.”or: Bobby travels back in time, hits Buck with his truck, adopts Buck, and changes the future just by being a father.
