Summary
It's January 1968, and Capt. Michael Robinavitch is four months into a twelve-month tour of duty in Vietnam. Given the option of accepting a commission as an Army doctor, being drafted as a grunt, or fleeing to Canada and never seeing his grandmother again, Robby reluctantly agreed to be commissioned as an officer. Inconsolably miserable, he's counting the days until he can leave Vietnam and return to his residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. That is, until his Bible-thumping hoochmate is replaced by the 95th Evacuation Hospital's newest arrival: Capt. Jack Abbot.

All the breath left Jack, the room going cold at one more shock to the system. "But—I'm his emergency contact," he tried, because maybe the kid had misunderstood. He and Robby had talked about being emergency contacts, of course. But a lot of people didn't even list sex contacts because they weren't commonly needed, so registration treated them as optional. Jack didn't have one. Robby had never said a word about that.
Which made sense because he and Jack weren't fucking like that.
