Naruto grimaced. His grip loosened on Sasuke. “Then maybe I don’t want to be Hokage…”
Sasuke’s eyes widened. Now it was his turn to grab Naruto– his one hand met Naruto’s high collar and pulled him closer.
“You’ve always wanted to be Hokage. Don’t you dare give that up for me…” Sasuke commanded. “You’ve already… sacrificed enough for my sake…”
Naruto swallowed. “And I’d sacrifice more if I had to…”
Sasuke blinked.
How could he say these things with a straight face? Naruto always had this ability to say exactly what you needed to hear to comfort you while causing immense pain at the same time.
“Naruto… you know that’d only hurt me more…” Sasuke said, carefully choosing his words. “Just promise me one thing, okay? For my sake, for everyone’s sake…”
Naruto frowned knowing the request that was coming.
“Keep what we have between us… a secret.”
Naruto bit his bottom lip. “For how long, Sasuke?”
