Shane’s phone begins vibrating. When he looks, they both see it’s a FaceTime call from Ilya.
“You’re killing me, Hollander.” Rose says, “I’m trying to wallow about being single.”
“Sorry. Just a sec, promise.”
“Nothing can stop the first husbands of hockey.”
Shane rolls his eyes but then snaps his thumb across his screen to answer.
“Back at your hotel?” Ilya asks, nearly mid-sentence.
“No, I’m still here with Rose.”
“Is that new shirt? The color is good. You look hot.”Rose grinds her teeth. She loves Shane and Ilya together. They are adorably obsessed with each other, like coyotes in heat or something, even after all these years. But she hadn’t felt this single in a long time.

Ilya propped himself up on an elbow, with one eyebrow raised. He could practically feel the tension rolling off Shane’s body in thick waves. His boy was always stressed, and Ilya knew exactly how to wipe it away. They had a rare five-day stretch with no games, practices, or obligations, and Ilya had been forming a plan of how to spend their solitude for weeks. He knew how hard the season had been on Shane, and although he had initially planned to wait until tonight, Shane obviously needed him now. He needed to be taken out of his head, and Ilya was more than happy to oblige.
Or: Ilya flawlessly executes a master plan to take Shane out of his busy mind, including trying out a brand new kink, sensory deprevation and leaving Shane a welted, blissed out mess.
