Hua Cheng wanted to cook for Xie Lian, to find the softest fabrics and drape them over his shoulders when he was cold, to fill his life with every little thing that made him smile, to make sure that whenever Xie Lian reached for something, it was already within his grasp. But most of all, Hua Cheng wanted Xie Lian to feel as if he were able to ask for anything.
Hua Cheng had done well taking care of him thus far. The only problem was that nothing he had provided for Xie Lian was asked for. Hua Cheng was running off of assumptions—educated guesses, if you may.
He wanted to know what Xie Lian actually wanted.
He wanted him to point toward something and say, "I want that."
Anything.
Everything.
Hua Cheng would lay it at his feet.
Xie Lian stumbles into the Gambler's Den looking for a job. He gets it, along with the awkward realization that perhaps he likes being coddled more than he'd care to admit.
