Summary
Wei Ying let out a laugh, turning his head to meet Lan Zhan’s gaze - the same glint in his eyes. A glint that said they need to suffer, they need to be punished, their actions will no longer be tolerated.
He leaned back, making himself comfortable in Lan Zhan’s arms as they wrapped around his waist.
“We’re going to kill Wen Ruohan.” Wen Qing’s gaze didn’t change.
“And then?”
A smirk crossed Wei Ying’s face.
“You don’t get it, Qing-jie. We’re going to kill Wen Ruohan, and not tell a single soul that he is dead."

Summary
"Wei Ying..."
It takes a beat for Wei Wuxian to register the sound of his name, the timbre of the voice calling him, the gentle cadence he has grown so accustomed to... To realise that it came from somewhere behind him, external to him, makes him dizzy all at once. He has so often heard this voice in his own mind, in his unruly thoughts when the days get too quiet and the nights get too long. He has to pause for a second as he holds his breath, wondering if he truly heard it, or if it is just a fleeting thought, like a passing cloud of a memory.
He lowers his flute and turns slowly, his heart rate spiking at the thought that this may be real, that he might once again set eyes on Lan Zhan.

Summary
Three years after the death of the Yiling Patriarch Wei Wuxian
The other day, Lan Wangji made a small detour before returning back to Cloud Recesses from the night hunt. Now, sitting in the dark by the three tablets, he lights incense, burns the paper money he was convinced to buy by a persuasive salesperson, and pours the jar of Emperor Smile on the ground.
A small offering, but an offering nonetheless.
Wei Ying. Are you well?
Lan Wangji lost his beloved long before Wei Ying died. He inadvertently pushed Wei Ying away, through his words, his actions, his inactions.
As penance, Lan Wangji has to live on. He carries with him the pain, the regret, the loss.
And then he hears their song.
