Unfortunately, telling his family on his own terms doesn’t work out when he wakes up one morning after an awful patrol that got him stabbed pretty badly, and takes a less than graceful tumble out of the bed on account of being suddenly quadrupedal, bigger than the entire bed and long .
Trying to move any way, even if only to stand up, is wobbly and making muscles he's never had before, move. His tail - a tail! - seems to have a mind of its own and he’s just glad he doesn’t have anything on the windowsill because that would have all met the ground just now. His shoulders flex, making him realize that he also has gotten wings .
Not only is he seemingly an overgrown damn lizard, he’s also a flying overgrown lizard.
This is fine. This is absolutely and completely fine, nothing to worry about.
Right, problem solving.
He’s got that.
Half an hour later he realizes that he might be in deeper shit than he had assumed and has decidedly Not Got That.

The first time one of Tim’s battle wounds seems to heal all too quickly, Bruce startles him by asking about it.

Bruce looks past him at the exact point on the floor of the Batcave where Tim had lost like a pint of blood the day before.
“Wasn’t that bad,” he echoes dryly.
