Summary
After Aizen's defeat, Ichigo did not lose his powers as expected. The Gotei 13 was divided between those who saw Ichigo as a friend and ally, and those who saw a potential threat. After a failed assassination attempt by the Onmitsukido, civil war erupted.
After many years and yet another attempt on his life, Kisuke sends Ichigo to another dimension with the promise that Ichigo will return as soon as the immediate danger has passed.

"Yeah, they just left. Peacefully and with half my entire house's worth of pillows."
He was rewarded with a little 'heh.' "And your estimated time of arrival at the shop?"
"Oh, uh." Ugh. Five minutes if he flew, but he didn't want to fly. "Fifte... thirty minutes. I gotta... stuff."
"Very well." She turned away from the phone, voice gone muffled as she relayed his words. Sigh.
"Alright," she said all at once, in such a different tone he almost startled. "I'm in the ladies' room. Tell me why you're coming back on foot. Are you brooding?"

Summary
Grimmjow grinned in his unsettling way again. "There it is." He let the wrist go, but Ichigo didn't get much opportunity to feel relieved because the same hand reached up to grip his chin instead. The gesture would have been intimate coming from anyone else. Coming from Grimmjow, it made Ichigo feel like a bug caught by a carnivorous plant, immobilized and waiting out the agonizing moments until he was digested. "There's the look I like on you: like you'll get back up and keep on swinging until you're in pieces. You keep looking at me like that, Kurosaki, and we won't have any problems."

Ichigo doesn't know anything about shinigami or hollows or wars between the two. All he knows is that there is one particular ghost with a hungry grin that he can't manage to shake. (Canon divergence where Ichigo does not get pulled into shinigami affairs, but does still get pulled into Grimmjow.)

Summary
Fighting Grimmjow was a balancing act, of sorts. Ichigo had kept his promise to the Arrancar once the wars were over and life settled into something that resembled normal, even if Ichigo had accepted that he didn’t quite fit the definition of normal anymore. He was simply glad that his life no longer threatened imminent death at every turn. It had taken a little bit to get to that point, even once the battles were done and the bad guys had been driven back and defeated. Because Grimmjow didn’t recognize the difference between a friendly spar and a fight to the death, and it had taken Ichigo a while to drill into his thick hollow skull that he wasn’t going to kill him, no matter how hard they fought.

It starts with a bet: Rangiku wagers that no one in the Gotei 13 can shock Captain Hitsugaya Tōshirō. Ichigo, dragged to the captain's meeting by Kenpachi, scoffs and says that's easy — he grew up with sixteen years of Shiba Morning Greetings, and he knows for a fact his dad did the same thing to Tōshirō for sixty years.
After summoning an audience that includes Kisuke (with a popcorn station), the Visored, Grimmjow, Starrk, and his sisters Karin and Yuzu, Ichigo proceeds to dropkick Tōshirō out of meditation and into a twenty-five-meter crater. What follows is the systematic destruction of the Seireitei's main courtyard as the wake-up call acts as a beacon, drawing out dozens of Shibas no one knew existed, a weeping Isshin who keeps getting punched through walls, a Kūkaku with a laminated family leaderboard, a clan historian who reveals Tōshirō's been on the Shiba registry for sixty years, and a Captain-Commander Yamamoto who turns out to be Ichigo's grandfather — and who has opinions about dropkick angles.
Tōshirō gets adopted by force, hugged by sixty relatives, and welcomed into the most violent family in Soul Society's history. He objects to all of it. He does not object to Yuzu's snickerdoodles.Bookmarked by Miss_Fallen

The thing about Kurosaki Ichigo, Grimmjow learns, is that he gives you exactly what you want the second it's clear you want it — and never once makes you ashamed of wanting it. Which would be fine, except Grimmjow has spent his whole existence making sure no one ever sees him want anything at all.
Featuring bratty bottom Grimmjow and service-top Ichigo who occasionally has to put him in his place. Seven chapters from the first fight to the family dinner.
