He plopped down on the bench just after play resumed. The feel of Leo's eyes on him disappearing. Enzo clasped his hands in attempt to get them to stop shaking. It didn't help in the slightest. Why would it when he practically damned himself into watching his teammates work twice as hard in his absence? To watch Leo drop back further than he should to help. To create opportunities and find openings where there barely seemed to be any. It made him feel so useless.
Then his eyes started burning.

His roommate's horrible attempt at quieting their footsteps roused Leo from his slumber. He cracked his eyes open and followed Ota through his eyelashes. As awareness slowly seeped into Leo, the sound of his teammates whispering and shushing each other beyond his room door became more and more apparent. Leo resisted the urge to fondly roll his eyes in favour of pretending like the oncoming shouts of, "Happy birthday!" were what woke him up rather than the obvious truth. It was the least he could do for his teammates' sakes.
