Jack Abott had met his match in Rebekah Robinavitch.
Teachers quickly realized that pairing them together was the best way to solve that particular problem. So from freshman year on, the two were paired together for everything. Jack didn’t give a shit about the humanities or math. He only really liked science, especially the biology and chemistry units. He was fine at math, but it got boring quickly. Rebekah excelled in all of her classes, so that meant dragging Jack along with her. However, at any given point it looked like the pair were minutes away from killing each other.Or: the story of how Jack and Robby have been getting on each other's nerves and in love for a long, long time.
Content Warning:
For the first half or so Robby isn't out so he is referred to as Rebekah with she/her pronouns. There is also talk of domestic violence, drinking/smoking and suicide.

Summary
Robby realises with a lurch of abject horror that there’s no recognition in Jack’s eyes. Zero. Jack is looking at him like they’re strangers.
He had thought he’d been having a bad day before, but somehow, realising that the cause of his gay awakening doesn’t remember him is a whole new factor of awfulness. In a way, it’s nice to realise that there are still depths to his shitshow of a life that he hasn’t explored yet.
Robby has his gay awakening at 24 with a guy who doesn't bother sticking around. Thirty years later, he's just finished saving a patient from a near-fatal GSW when he's dragged from work, shoved into a car and told that "the boss" wants to have a word. Robby doesn't expect this guy to be Jack. He doesn't expect to be offered a job working for the mob, either.
