He snapped his fingers with a seething fury that he had rarely felt and blasted the door into a mangled mess. The dark-haired man inside the room had cowered at the blast before he took one look at the mess Roy made, terror scorched in his eyes. Roy snapped his fingers once more with less hesitation, leaving them truly and irreparably scorched.
“Took you long enough.” Ed weakly spat blood off to the side, adding to the puddle that was already forming.

But, yeah, all in all Ed wasn’t as badly hurt as the people currently occupying the sacred few hospital beds in Central.
His body begged him to rest, to slow down, and allow others to take care of his mess for once, but Ed had never been the best at looking after himself. It took a little bit more than a day for him to finally listen – he visited Al with the explicit goal of falling asleep next to his brother, his bed big enough for the two of them just this once.
Unaware of how dangerous his injuries from the Promised Day are, Ed waits too long to go see a doctor. In the end a few hours can make the difference between life and death.

Edward Elric was dead. Like, fully dead. Heart no longer beating, massive blood loss, soul exiting this mortal plane, type of dead. However, that apparently wasn’t enough to make him stop existing. Ed just wants to rest goddamnit, but Truth is being a right bastard about the whole situation.
...
Or, Ed dies, but unbeknownst to his friends and family, his soul sticks around. He makes do for several years — until an alchemist performs human transmutation to try and bring him back to life. The crazy thing is… it works.

The first thing Roy set his gaze on had not been the huge suit of armour, nor the little boy’s double amputation or the wheelchair, and not even the soulless look in his eyes. It had been the colour of them.
It felt like he’d lost the ability to breathe. Seeing that kid made him choke on his tongue, cutting off oxygen to his lungs as if he’d just been punched in the gut. He might as well have, from how fast his heart dropped.
