You're in a chair with the person you love on your lap, and you have to try quite hard indeed not to tell him you love him.
Love is too early of a word. Too melodramatic. Yet it fits, does it not?
You try to choke down the feeling, trembling despite yourself, words stuck in your throat, and the person in your lap simply reaches over and touches you, furious at the world but not with you, as though you will break—and you very well might—as though you are a prayer of the damned. Each touch an amen. Each point of skin touching skin a melting point.

Summary
After breaking a major law of the Enochian Herd, Lucifer is exiled and has to find his own way in the world. With all good territory occupied by other herds or traps for an unmated doe, he doesn't have many options left and winds up in a damp, uninhabited stretch of swampy woodland. Or is it?
(Uninhabited, that is. It's definitely damp).

Summary
Lucifer Morningstar, King of Sheol, has refused to remarry for a full ten years after the abdication of his last queen. His ministers have elected to throw a ball for him to select the next royal consort, but Lucifer has decreed it will be a masquerade in hopes of meeting his future spouse without the promise of a crown clouding their judgement.
Mister Alastor Hartfelt, heir to the Sullivan line of Sancerre House and fallen member of the peerage, is begrudgingly attending King Morningstar's ball as his Aunt Rosalind's escort.
