Liu Xiao hums at that, then takes a sip of his drink. He licks the sugar off the rim slowly, well-aware of the sergeant’s eyes on him. It’s a decent martini, probably one of the better ones he’s had. It was kind of Jae Lee to pick a good bar to threaten his life at. He’d hate to have a gun pointed at him while nursing pig swill.

So Vein doesn’t trust anybody. How could he? He hasn’t survived a quarter of a century walking barefoot through hell being naïve. If anything, he prefers animals. They’re predictable. They demonstrate their intent with raised hackles and bluff charges. They’re simpleminded, concerned only about their young and where their next meal is coming from. If Vein had the time, he’d probably own a dog or two. It’d be a nice change of pace, having a companion that doesn’t have a malicious bone in its body. He has ample evidence in the shape of stab-wounds and bullet-holes to prove that the hearts of men are tainted with corruption. They always have been.

But God, (or whatever cosmic entity is running things out in the ether), has made a delightful habit of shitting in his dinner. It’s as if he’s got a standard-bearer hellbent on undermining him, or a trio of witches pointing notched knuckles toward Birnam Wood, because every lesson he’s ever learned fizzles out like a one-hit wonder the moment he lays eyes on a certain blond.

Or: “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.”

In which Venti harbors a suspicion that the neighboring Geo Archon hates his guts and is actively trying to unseat him from the Seven, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

“He just casually sharpens his spear while talking to me. All the time! I mean, who does that? How am I supposed to not perceive that as a threat?”

“To be fair, we are talking about a god of martial arts, here,” the Pyro Archon suggested. “That seems pretty par for the course.”

“Okay, you are all being way too calm about this!” Venti snapped. “You guys realize he only does this to me? I mean,” he started, counting on his fingers, “does he randomly visit any of you unannounced? Does he threateningly show off his spears when talking to any of you? Did he buy any of you a bunch of fancy wine right before the winter gala so you’d get super drunk and make an ass of yourselves? No! It’s only me! It’s always me! Because he’s trying to get rid of me at any cost!”

There are many ways to express love, and Diluc does not know how to handle any of them.

Or: 5 times that Angel’s Share served as a place where people showed their love for others (slightly to Diluc’s dismay) + 2 times it served the same purpose for Diluc (even more to his dismay)

    Summary

Christophe and his mom were only visiting rural England on what was supposed to be a simple assassination job: kill the only son of some noble upper-class family. The assignment had to do with some seemingly petty conflict up north he was neither aware of nor cared about. What Christophe hadn't anticipated, however, was that he would be utterly charmed by his very target; a certain Gregory of Yardale.

Years later, Gregory is living in the backwater American town of South Park, Colorado, and war has been declared on Canada. Upon joining a small, barely competent resistance group, he realizes they'll need all the help they can get and decides to call upon an old...friend? Acquaintance? Gregory hasn't a clue how to define their relationship, but while stuck working together in the weeks leading up to the planned execution of Terrance and Phillip, the two begin to grow much closer than either of them would like to admit.
