Summary
Simon looks into the light.
He is spared from The Quiet Rapture but his experience in the Iron Lung have left him changed. Touch starved and lonely, he meets the only other human who could understand.
Neither of them know what they’re doing. This is Grace’s first time being in love (and therefore lust) with someone and Simon has never been allowed to be vulnerable with another man.
Also: Grace accidentally triggers Simon to produce eggs and after a brief freak out, they both have a wonderful time exploring Simon’s body.

That being the once half dead, blood soaked, one armed growling and glaring man now oddly softened but no less rather intimidating omega, grumbling something under his breath as he all but paves a path into the floors of their shared home.

Grace, who when Simon made an offhanded reference to the concept of secondary genders during their first year together, seemed completely puzzled by the idea. That was already an awkward conversation, even with Simon purposefully avoiding the topic of heats and ruts! How exactly was that follow-up conversation supposed to go? “Hey, remember when we found out that despite our shared humanity, we have vastly different biologies? Well there’s something I neglected to mention and it’s going to be your problem very soon!”
It turns out, yes, that conversation goes almost exactly like that.
Or: To his surprise, Simon gets his heat, and Grace has to get really cool about a lot of things really quickly.

After being on suppressants for years before Erid, then experiencing very easy ruts because there wasn't another human being for 16 light years, he wakes up to an early rut that feels /bad/. Then he finds out his roommate/kind of friend is an Omega, and it gets worse. When Simon goes into heat despite the suppressants he's on, they have big decisions to make.
