Summary
Hyuuga Tomie, as her name condemned, gives birth to twin boys.
They are born nearly the same time. The midwife would later say that there were usually hours between twins– minutes if the mother wasn't lucky, days if she was.
But her children are born within seconds of each other. Later, as she stares down at their bassinets, side-by-side, she realizes that she could switch them then and there, fast and quiet enough that she could change forever the fate of her younger son– could free him from the fate that she had once suffered, as a member of the branch family.
Her hand wavers. Does she love her younger son enough? Of course– as soon as she had cradled him in her arms, she had known that she would do anything for both of them.
Her eyes flick between the bassinets, between Hiashi and Hizashi.
Does she hate her older son enough to consign him to that fate?
Does she hate her younger son enough to not?
