Summary
The scene opened on a cozy-looking English cottage. It stood away from busy streets, its cream colored walls having been weathered a bit by the years.
A stone pathway lined by various bright and well-kept flowers led up to the front porch. On that porch was David Lister, unlocking the front door and letting himself inside. He was wearing a mechanic’s uniform beneath a comfortable looking coat and his signature deerstalker.
“Oh honey, I’m home!” He said brightly as he toed off his shoes, dropped his toolbox, and hung up his hat and coat by the door.
“Welcome back,” another voice said from further into the house. “I’m just finishing up dinner now.”
Lister goes through the dream recorder and ends up watching Rimmer's favorite dream... which just so happens to be a vision of a domestic life with the two of them.

“It is not your concern,” ART said. “They are no longer your clients.”
That was true. They weren’t my clients. But they used to be, and the thought of them going off by themselves to get chewed on by hostile fauna or whatever was doing funny things to my performance reliability.
I didn’t say that out loud, but ART knew I was thinking it anyway, because it’s a monster.
“For a construct that claims to hate its function, you are remarkably dedicated to it.” ART does this thing sometimes where it says something that sounds like a compliment but in such an obnoxious tone that it feels like an insult anyway.
“Fuck off, ART.”
“You fuck off.”
So, I decided to go on the survey.Several years after they met on RaviHyral, Tapan and her collective contact Murderbot with a job offer. As their security consultant on a planetary survey, Murderbot must contend with malfunctioning equipment, hostile fauna, and an overabundance of human emotion, all while maintaining its increasingly fragile disguise as an augmented human.

Aceiverse/ArgumentRimmer’s face hardened. “Lister, you’re being childish.”
“Me?” Lister scoffed. “I’m not the one who starts crying the second things get a bit out of order!”
“That is beside the point!”
“No, the point,” Lister snapped, turning on him fully now, “is that I’m sick of you! Sick of your whining, your bossing everyone around, your stupid smegging little comments all the time about anything I do-”
“As if I’m not sick of living with a degenerate who thinks it’s okay to just leave crumbs all over the floor and put his bare feet up on tables? You think this is any easier for me?” Rimmer threw his hands in the air. “You think that living with you is the pride and joy of my existence? You think I’m happy here?!”
“Then maybe you should’ve stayed dead!”
Rimmer and Lister are arguing. Lister accidentally goes too far and Rimmer retaliates by shutting himself off. Lister learns that his life isn't quite complete without Rimmer there.

His bunkroom on board Red Dwarf is vastly smaller than any sleeping quarters he’s lived in up until now.
It's compact, lacking space in a way that most people would find inconvenient, and coloured in a dull shade of ocean grey that makes the whole room appear somehow even more cramped than it actually is.
It's drab, clinical, positively depressing and, as far as Arnold Judas Rimmer is concerned, absolutely perfect.

“Look up,” Rimmer stated, voice cracking. He pointed a shaky finger to the roof of the bunk.
Lister’s gaze followed. There, taped to the top of the bunk with way too much Scotch tape, was a singular, very battered sprig of mistletoe that certainly hadn’t been there when he’d gone to sleep. It took Lister’s groggy mind a minute to process what it was, but when he did, he felt an overwhelming wave of fondness come over him. Oh. So that was what Rimmer was thinking.
Lister wakes up in the morning to find Rimmer sitting on top of him, having very strategically hung up some mistletoe for holiday related morale reasons.
