At least he had a mini-fridge waiting for him back at the hotel, something to drown it all out and forget the pain.But Chris was not letting it go. He kept pushing, kept demanding answers, kept trying to pull Leon back into reality when Leon wasn’t sure he wanted to be there.
Why was everyone so persistent in trying to help him? Why was Chris so angry with him?
Leon didn’t know. And for the first time, he wasn’t sure he wanted to find out.

Summary
Leon Kennedy was dangerous for Chris. Everyone knew it. Chris could see the way Jill looked at him disapprovingly after catching him staring for a bit too long at the DSO agent. Claire’s warnings about how ‘you know I love Leon, but…’were burned into his brain. Not that he needed them to point out to him that his infatuation with the younger man was a bad idea. Leon was a shattered mess of trauma, distrust, booze, and sarcasm wrapped up in packaging so pretty it could talk you into enabling him with ease. Leon was an inferno. If Chris got too close, he knew he’d get burned. He’d remind himself that he didn’t want to get his heart broken, force himself to stop thinking about him, and move on with his day.
But then Leon would look at him with those blue eyes wet with unshed tears of frustration. He’d lean against Chris, too drunk to stand on his own. He’d come back from an assignment with his body broken and mind twisted in knots with a desperate need for someone to help him put the pieces back together.
Chris wanted to be that someone.

“Manage?” Chris took a step forward. “You’re wrapped up in bandages, and you’re talking about managing like this is some routine assignment- ”
“It is routine,” Leon cut in sharply.
The silence that followed was immediate. Chris stared at him like he didn’t recognize him. Leon felt it, like something cracking open in his chest.
So he doubled down.“That’s the job,” he added, colder now. “You don’t get to pick when it’s convenient.”
Chris flinched. It was small and barely noticeable, but Leon still saw it. And it made something inside him twist so violently he almost lost his footing.
*Good. Keep going. Make it worse. He’ll let go if you make it worse.*

Leon would be perfectly fine for two weeks, Chris thought. He was facing PTA moms, not BOWs.
He grimaced. Okay, maybe it would be bad. Too late to turn back now, though.
Years pass after the incident in Eastern Europe, and Chris and Leon are doing their best with their little family after they adopt Rose. Chris is always the one who interfaces with Rose’s school because he knows Leon doesn't want to interact with people and he's good at it. However, an urgent mission pulls him away during an important time during the school year. This leaves his fiancé to handle it, but problems arise when the school and the parents involved are expecting a future Mrs. Redfield, not Mr.
