She was supposed to be insignificant to him - a symbol of his twisted triumph in having the renowned mudblood who had been a thorn in his conquest at magical world domination over the years, his sweet captive that he kept in a gilded cage, his mudblood who also served one crucial purpose - but perhaps it is the softness and sweetness she gave to him softened the dark monstrosity within him that he eventually found himself being wholly devoted to his precious little bird to the point he worshipped her behind closed door.
He had everything - the fall of the Order of Phoenix (most of whom are deceased), the magical Britain ruled under his thumb, Pureblood wizards and witches worshipping him (be it in fear or genuine admiration), his sweet little mudblood.
Unfortunately, the softness and sweetness in his little bird captured the attention of some of his powerful, loyal Death Eaters. Despite the darkness in him that snarled and urged him to eliminate those Death Eaters who dared to looked at her the way he did, he allowed them to have access to her for as long as she remained unharmed.
After all, this ensured that she would never be able to fly from these predatory hands, for she is theirs to keep.
