Summary
Homecoming AU.
Ben and May divorced before Peter’s parents died, so when Ben is murdered Peter goes into foster care. It takes just a tiny taste of superpowers for Peter to decide he doesn’t want to put up with his horrible foster father anymore—the streets are infinitely more appealing. All he wants is to be Spider-Man anyway.
So he leaves.
Simple.
Simple, that is, until Iron Man needs Spider-Man’s help. Peter isn’t about to turn down an opportunity to fight alongside Tony Freaking Stark, but he also isn’t going to let his hero know that his recruit is a fifteen-year-old homeless dropout. So they strike a deal. Peter will help Tony. In return, the mask stays on.
And that’s when things get complicated.

Summary
Early December in New York City is brutal. With temperatures hovering in the low fifties and mid-forties, there isn't much wiggle room- you either have what you need or you don't.
Peter falls somewhere in the second category.
He's made a list of what he has, keeps it zipped up in his old backpack to make sure he hasn't lost anything important. It isn't long: a carefully folded wad of cash in the bottom of his bag, hidden away to make sure nobody else can find it; three granola bars for emergencies; ibuprofen (fighting crime isn't safe, kids); his Spider-Man suit (that's what he's decided to call himself); a pair of extra socks; his pictures.
That's it. Everything Peter owns fits in one bag.
That's his lot in life.
Pathetic.
(In which May and Ben died in tragic circumstances, leaving a fifteen-year-old Peter Parker to fend for himself. Enter Tony Stark: genius, playboy, billionaire, philanthropist, and- apparently- Spider-dad.)

“Listen to me going on and on about pie. You tell me more about yourself, Just Jack,” Eric prompts, smiling encouragingly.
“Uhh,” Jack begins, forcing himself to put down his fork and actually make conversation. “I play hockey.”
“You don’t say?” Eric says, smile widening.
“Chirp, chirp, chirp.”
Jack meets the love of his life while serving Thanksgiving dinner at a homeless shelter and struggling to learn the difference between sexuality and dysfunction. Along the way, he repairs some broken relationships and figures out how to let himself have nice things, one of which is a small southern baker with a habit of concealing the truth.
