Gwayne Hightower is a dutiful son.
He sees his father’s bullshit, understands his real motivations, but he remains loyal to him nonetheless. He would defend Aegon as King if it became necessary, not because he believes that he is the rightful heir, or because he think Princess Rhaenyra would kill him otherwise, but because he understands that his father will push to it, that Otto will initiate a war just to see Aegon crowed and that will put his life in the line and Gwayne will not just stand there and let his family be slaughtered because his father is a bastard.
But then here he is, watching as this narrative that his father is pushing into them destroys his oldest nephew, twists him into something angry and broken, watching as his sister loses herself to paranoia and anger, watching as it consumes and destroys every single person he loves.
And fuck that. Gwayne is a dutiful son, but the gods forgive him, he has to protect his sister and her family even if that means stabbing his father in the back.
Or: Gwayne Hightower becomes Otto's number #1 hater.

If he brought him the flower that is, but he found that he did not wish to ask his squire such a question. The boy might have laughed at the idea of Dunk inquiring, might have asked why, and how was Dunk to answer him but with a lie?
He surely could not say that this purple flower, so small and fragile in his palm, was the perfect shade of purple to the boys own brother’s eyes.Dunk finds a flower that reminds him of Daeron, and in trying to learn more about it, he collects more that are almost right but not perfect, until he is reunited with the prince once again.

It had occurred to Dunk in those final moments that they would probably not recover his body, that he would be nought but ash by the time the fires were brought under control. But that thought had oddly comforted him in a way, that there would be no grand funeral for the Lord Commander who had failed.
Failed to save more from the fire, failed to stop Aegon in the first place. Who knows, maybe his failure had even begun back in the hedges, maybe something he had done or not done had made Aegon the man who had done..this.
He would do anything to go back and fix it, had been his last thought before the sensations shifted from heat to cold, from fire to waves, from pain to panic.
