“That’s mighty lucky James,” The man said with a surprised tone. “You got folks down there?”
James nodded.
If he made it to New York, there was a good chance he would be safe. At that point, it wouldn’t matter. Once he was far away from his old life, he could be anyone—he could do anything. He felt much calmer than he had in a while. He almost felt numb again, like he had when he had looked out the window back at home–not at home. At the house he used to live in.
