“Today we’re learning how to read and write.” He announced, drawing the book closer between them. Kitty tilted her head at once, curiosity blooming across her face. Her gaze darted from the ink to the page to his face, as though the letters themselves might leap up and introduce their secrets.
There was a saying, wasn’t there? Curiosity killed the cat. Owain almost smiled at the thought.
In her case, curiosity would not be her end. It would be her making. It was the brightest thing about her. The hunger to understand, to explore, to ask why even when the world offered no easy answers. He only hoped she would one day learn caution to balance it.

Suddenly the sound of brush and forestry being trampled echoed through the forest, someone- something rushing through the woods, a pull from his heart urging Louis to rush towards the sound. A tug in his chest, certain whoever this was needed help, was in pain.
The creature- fledgling crashed into Louis' arms with the power of a thousand burning suns. Louis didn't know who the young vampire's sire was, but it had to be a member of his own coven- or at least a relative given the connection he could feel.
