Summary
Hermione Granger arrives in 1943 on purpose. The artefact is one-way, she knows it, and she has come to murder a sixteen-year-old boy.
She finds him in a corridor forty minutes after she lands. She does not say anything first, because everybody who says something first is dead. She puts a curse through his chest.
He gets up.
She aimed for 1938 and missed by five years. Tom Riddle already has two Horcruxes, and until this evening neither of them knew whether the things actually worked. She has just handed him the most valuable information of his life by trying to end it.
Nobody has been a genuine threat to him since he was twelve. He did not know that was unbearable until twenty-one minutes to ten tonight.
So he is not going to hand her to the Aurors. He is going to give her a name, a history and a year, knowing exactly what she intends to do with it.
Nothing is free. All magic has a price. The Dark Arts are the branch in which somebody else pays.
