Alex laughs quietly, and it comes out wet and pathetic. Dream’s expression shifts into something sad, and Alex hates that too. He hates being pitied by Dream and hates being loved incorrectly.
He hates that Hob gets laughter and softness and those tiny things without asking while Alex has spent years bleeding himself for scraps.
He looks down at the willow. Stupid thing and stupid shop and stupid wish and stupid fucking hope. The wood feels warm in his palm and his fingers curl around it even as his breath catches painfully.
Dream exhales and says, “Alexander.”
“I wish you loved me the way I love you.”
“Alex—“
The willow snaps.

Summary
Morbid curiosity and a secret desire to see Victor drives Elizabeth and William to the Tower early, allowing them to participate in the building and the beginning of the Creature. But when Harlander, deprived of his prize, makes one move to far, the group are sent into the wilderness, to find a family and become closer than they could ever have preciously thought.
Victor, Elizabeth and the Creature, with the help of the DeLacey's and an increasingly amused William, will slowly realise that they belong together. That they, who understand each other better than the world ever could, would be the only people they could rely on for their happiness and love.
And when a final confrontation happens, and disaster strikes, the Creature will prove to them and himself just how miraculous his existence really is.
