James Barnes woke in a strangled cry, chest heaving, ragged gasps.
“Zemo,” James choked. “It’s not been me. The Soldier - he’s been here. He’s been living as me. He’s tapped your phone, email, everything. Get help - Sam, Wakanda, anybody - he wants to raise Hydra from the ashes!”
Zemo stroked his shoulder, soothing. “It is only a night terror, darling. You are safe. Here, with me.”
But James only clung harder, eyes wild. “No, no. It’s him. I'm not strong enough, he might hurt you.."
Zemo soothed him back to sleep, dismissing the echoes of old trauma. He would notice if the Winter Soldier had taken his husband’s place. Wouldn’t he?

Chaos erupts: operatives flee, stations are abandoned.. and one cryostasis pod, long forgotten, still holds the Winter Soldier. Once the fog recedes and James Buchannan Barnes comes back to himself he realises that he has a long road to being normal again.
