Summary
Vanitas liked to consider himself a practical man.
He liked to think that he was rather adept at overcoming unexpected situations, that he could react accordingly to any surprises that arose in his path. He had one goal in life, and it was as steadfast as it was all consuming. He didn’t need to think about anything else, didn’t want to think about anything else because nothing else mattered, not to him and not at all.
He had believed that for a long time, right up until now, as he sat rigidly on his usual spot on the roof, cheek still burning despite the cold.
Burning in the spot where Noe had kissed him.

Noe turned his head to look. Donned in a black doctor’s coat, a petite man rolled his eyes at him with a confident, infuriating grin.
“Uh… hello. Are you my doctor? I can’t seem to… remember anything.” Noe hesitantly sat up to properly greet the man. With a slow blink, he touched his fingertips to his forehead and met with gauze.
“You’re… you’re kidding. There’s no way. You’re messing with me.” The maybe-doctor stared at him with wide eyes. “Fuck. No, you wouldn’t even have the skill to lie about something like this-- you’re not the type,” he muttered to himself.
His eyes were an electric blue, twin orbs containing the blue moons that Noe had fallen in love with as a child. Noe would remember if he’d met someone with those eyes. (And that pretty face.) He was sure of it.
“Have we… met before?” Noe asked slowly.

As the others began to talk amongst themselves, all still stunned and struggling to compherend the way Marc just went off on Chloe so fearlessly, Nathaniel pulled Marc aside and whispered to him with a huge grin. “Okay, who are you and what did you do with Marc?”
“…I’m not good at standing up for myself.” Marc explained softly. “But I don’t like watching somebody tear into someone I care about, you know?” Then he flushed and stammered to correct himself. “Some𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨! As in our comic. That- That’s what I meant.”
Nathaniel’s heart soared, threatening to burst out of his chest just so it’d have room to fly even higher. He could only look at Marc with a wobbling smile that was threatening to turn into something embarrassingly tender.

Qifrey’s formal robes were a piece of art in their own right. Bankrolled by Beldaruit as a final graduation gift, they were a pale smoke, nearly white, and from what Olruggio could remember the golden embroidery was a sight to see. It vined along the bottom hem and wrapped organically around his throat, and when Olly had seen them for the first time he hadn’t known what to say. Qifrey had stepped forward to speak to him and he’d simply stared until gently reminded that he was still, in fact, capable of speech.
(Truthfully, just an elaborate set piece to put both dads in formal robes for an evening.)
