Voldemort didn't make any horcruxes, but he did try to kill the Potters because of a half-heard prophecy that might have had something to do with their one year old child. James is killed but Voldemort is taken down by Sirius and the Aurors and given the Dementor's kiss, Lily lives. Petunia is a squib who gets divorced by Vernon when Dudley turns out to be a wizard like Harry. They grow up together and go to Hogwarts together as well, Harry in Gryffindor and Dudley in Hufflepuff. They both have everything going for them academically and socially except Harry is deathly shy around girls. Dudley on the other hand is most-decidedly not, and Harry has to bear witness to his conquests more often than not. Now, Harry is a sixth-year Gryffindor prefect who catches Pansy Parkinson, sixth-year Slytherin, out after curfew smuggling contraband into the castle to sell. She proposes an alternative to losing house points or detention, which he cautiously agrees to, to their mutual benefit.
