There was something Grian was trying to ignore. It was painfully simple–just a letter that sat in the drawer at his bedside. Its envelope was bright red and within it was a single piece of paper. It wasn’t sealed properly because it didn’t need to be–the ink was something that only Grian and a few others could ever read. Had it come from anyone else, that would have been concerning, but as it was, Taurtis was one of the only people in the Universe who Grian was willing to extend the benefit of the doubt to when it came to the past that they shared.

Summary
It was hard to forget that month spent in a cement cell.
Hell, there was something about calling the block of time they were there for as simply 'a month' that made it seem so much shorter than it had felt. Scott would always remember it as an eternity, and he would bet good money that Pearl and Jimmy remembered it as two.
In which Scott, Pearl, and Jimmy survived a special type of hell and Scott is the one who lingers.

Summary
The thing about time is that it's relative. If something happens in one moment it also happens in every moment throughout all of its existence.
That is to say that when a fraction of a fraction of the King slips into Avery's mind on New Year's Eve, Avery also wakes up a year prior with omnipotence, a world's worth of grief, and his best friend's real-life address burning in his head.
Along the way he picks up a baseball bat. It's a necessary provision for smashing Derek's laptop into a thousand pieces before he can so much as launch Minecraft.

Then a pinch at his neck, like a bee sting, but deeper. Darkness. Then here.
Huh. Kidnapped. That’s new. If he was less emotionally dead from finals and sleep deprivation, he’d probably have a stronger and much more appropriate reaction to that.
At least he's got Captain America and the Winter Soldier to keep him company.
