Summary
The bed beneath Iguin, if one must call it that, was no better than the ground. Worse even. Where soil was soft and gave way to weight, beneath them was something rigid though equally cold. Opening their single eye did not greet them with a warm sun either. Dark stone ceiling and dark stone walls with a build-up of moisture in their porous material. Darkness cascading all around them in shadows that were anything but safe.
By instinct, though they are not sure why the instinct is there, they reach up towards their scalp. Fingers only meet short unruly locks. Equally— perhaps if not more confusingly— was the shackle bound to their wrist hovering in eyeline. They’re a prisoner?

“Carpal tunnel on the elbows and wrist, and tightness on the shoulders.” Deanreldy said. “Signs of strain on the median nerve, all the way up to the neck tendons.” Deanreldy sounded conversational, even casual. “I suppose the calluses on your hands can also be easily explained… or perhaps, they come from using magic?”
In an instant, Beldaruit recoiled. He slapped aside Deanreldy’s hands, twisting his entire body away. “Is this part of your scheme? Stop this at once! I refuse to be your specimen!”
Deanreldy was too clever by half. If he allowed the king to continue, Beldaruit feared that his body would somehow betray their witchly secrets. It was easy enough to hide his fear with anger, although part of the anger was directed at himself. He had let down his guard.
After the disastrous meeting, Deanreldy visits Beldaruit in private to tend to his wounds.

“Come on, Olly.” Qifrey rolled onto his stomach to fix Olruggio squarely in his sights. The last few years of boyhood had rounded out Qifrey's sharpest edges, leaving him mostly handsome and amiable. From time to time, though, he still got this look in his eye like an impending tsunami.
Olruggio had long since given up any illusions of outrunning the destruction.

Before the atelier and the apprentices, young Olruggio and Qifrey have recently passed the fourth, and final, test to become full-fledged witches. With their newfound freedom from the Great Hall, they decide to pay a visit to Ghodrey in the north--Olruggio's hometown.
Between dealing with his embarrassing relatives and planning for life as an adult witch, Olruggio grapples with growing desires towards his best friend. He is unsure what the future holds for them and whether he can follow Qifrey wherever it takes him.
