The Metros aren’t all that happy with a gay captain. Some think it’s an embarrassment, that it means something inherently bad about them. They wonder if he looks at them in the showers, and feel disturbed. So, they, along with the coach, decide to speak to the GM. He can get Hollander under control. Or they can maybe demote him. He’s a gay Asian man after all- he should be happy to still play.
They just forget a few things. 1, this is Shane Hollander, generational talent with thousands of fans, dozens of sponsors and the hottest man of the NHL 5 years running. 2, this is Montreal, the gayest city in North America. 3, they really have no room to bargain.

Summary
All told he got into a couple scraps a year, but nothing to write home about – he didn’t instigate, he didn’t go too far. He kept his head level and focused on what it needed to be focused on: winning the game. Sure, one time he almost punched Scott Hunter’s lights out after a game, but whatever – he was emotionally compromised then, sue him. Mostly everyone assumed that was a weird blip and let it go, and he and Scott maintained enough professional friendliness at league events that everyone figured it wasn’t personal, which it wasn’t.
All of that to say that the more and more the media went on about Hockey’s Golden Boy, the more people forgot that Shane was, at the end of the day, just like any other professional hockey player. He knew how to throw a fucking punch. He just chose not to, most times, for strategic reasons.
It became apparent that people had forgotten this very key fact almost immediately after he joined the Centaurs.

Ilya's kneeling to meet him knee for knee, never once judging the adrenaline crash or ugle sobs or half mumble self deprecating nonsense because it wasn't the time for it. No, it's time for Hockey God Shane Hollander to fall apart in his husband's arm.

Summary
Ilya doesn’t even try to stop the litany of Russian swears from spilling out. He also doesn’t stop himself from cursing Marly’s whole family line, and then verbalizing some of his more homicidal thoughts about Scott Hunter and the kitchen sink. He lets his Russian ranting die out and takes a few deep breaths.
Everyone has quieted to look at him.
“Feel better?” Marly asks.
Maybe Ilya could drown Marly in the sink along with Hunter. Maybe he could kill everyone in the suite before Shane wakes up. He’d have to kill the butler guy, too…and the front of house staff…and the wedding chapel staff…and then convince Shane to run away with him to somewhere that would neither extradite to the US nor prosecute them for being gay. Messy. Too messy.
OR
Ilya wakes up with a wedding ring and a WHOLE LOT of questions...but at least Marly and Scott fucking Hunter are having a good time. This is Ilya's worst nightmare which, as it turns out, features a night of blackout drinking, misguided but supportive friends, and some VERY stupid decisions.
