    “You, a descendant of Lúthien and me, a relic of Fëanor. Aman’s beauty does not compel us, we spurn it and seek solace elsewhere. But we will find it so unbearable, the thought that Aman might go on being beautiful without us,” he picks small leaves and twigs out of her hair. “A child will put his hand into my favourite pond and feel a fish turn beneath his fingers. The rain will drum softly upon a roof we have never seen, and someone will open the harbour door because the air smells of the sea. We will have no claim upon any of it. We will not even know what we have missed. And still, here beneath the mallorn, with the night insects ticking in the grass and the leaves moving above us, you and I find that for different reasons entirely, we have both chosen an unbearable proximity to the world whose losses we know most deeply, having had a hand in them ourselves.”

    Arwen goes to die in Lothlorien. Maglor follows.
