"Are you a merman, then?" He asked again, bringing the previous topic back. Meanwhile, he continued to undress in front of Olruggio, who was finding it increasingly more hard to divert his eyes from the motion when the man did it so elegantly.
Trying his best, he slowly took his eyes off the man's hands, bringing them back to his face. To his surprise, however, Olruggio found he was already being watched attentively.
"Even if I was, I wouldn't tell you. That kind of defeats the purpose of the whole masquerade ball thing," Olruggio offered, trying not to show how the idea of the man figuring out who he was bothered him.
Or,
Olruggio, certainly bringing disgrace to his entire ancestral line, finds himself inviting a vampire into his bed.

“Not just that, but you’re useful,” Kokichi continued thoughtfully. “And I guess you saved my pod’s life by sniffing out the parasites in the fish, so I guess I owe you a tiny bit.” Something more… he wouldn't say genuine, but something more serious, fell over Kokichi’s expression. “I’ve kept my eye on you all this time. And I’ll continue to keep my eye on you. But, Shuichi…”
Kokichi smiled, leaning forwards.
“Would you like to join my pod?”

or,
Shuichi, who lived his entire life as a lone mer, suddenly finds himself living with a peculiar pod who calls themselves "DICE". He never could have imagined that this would lead to him having to venture to the human world, in hopes of rescuing the very mer who had taken him in.Series

If only.
If only, if only, if only Shuichi had just kept walking. If only he had simply gone back to his room with Maki and Tenko. Then this wouldn't have happened. Then he wouldn't have...
...well. At least as a ghost he won't get in trouble for setting things on fire. By accident, of course.
--
tldr; Shuichi chooses an unfortunate time to walk into one of the fourth floor's empty rooms.
