    Summary

“What do you suggest, J’onn?” Diana asks. Eyes hard and determined, every bit the warrior sculpted from clay. But voice soft and gentle.
    “An investigation.”
Dick’s hands start to tremble under the table.

    Summary

"Good morning, sleepyhead!" May laughs, closing the oven door. "Boy, that cinnamon roll recipe was a disaster."

The cracked countertop. The fridge that always hummed a little too loud. The oven is still the gas-powered model from when he was a kid, not the electric one Happy bought for May after the Pumpernickle Bread That Shall Not Be Discussed.

    He's… in his old apartment?

    "Peter?"

He startles, looking back at—at Aunt May, alive and well. (How long has it been since someone last said his name?)

Something tells him he's not in Kansas anymore.

    or

Peter knows Groundhog Day is in February, but honestly, it feels a little too on the nose to have a villain stick you in a time loop, right guys? Guys? Okay, well, you thought this joke was hilarious yesterday.

    Summary

He had known Metzger was dead. Whether or not, Jean had been the one to do it though? He didn’t know. Peter had been planning to look into his autopsy report but everything had been hectic since-

“You’ve done really good work lately. Even I know that. This though? You screwed the pooch. You should have contacted the Avengers-“

A bark of a laugh filled the air. It took a moment for Peter to realize it was his own voice laughing. The lady at hot dog standing was shuffling through her purse. Something was hitting agansit the loose change. The noise was familiar. Probably foundation powder that was being hit or maybe-

“What’s so funny, Spiderman?” He was pissed. Peter could hear it in Tony’s voice.

“You said that without the hyphen,” the words popped out of his unbidden. He had a habit of that these last few years. Maybe it was because he was so tired of people repeating the same old mistakes instead of taking the opportunity the change. Maybe the lack of filter came from how little he slept between Spider-Man and his jobs. Or, Peter’s least favorite option in this self reflection quiz, it was because quipping made a conversation longer.

    Summary

Tim is five years old when he drowns in his parents' pool. He dies quietly, waiting for parents who love him, but will never be there, to realise that something is wrong. They never show up, and he sinks into oblivion.

When he wakes up and claws his way out of the water, the sun has set, and the lights of his house are on. He is cold and wet and his lungs burn.

But most of all, Tim is alone.

(If you die and no-one is there to see it, were you ever alive in the first place?)

    Summary

Did you know, Tim once told him over breakfast, unprompted, if a soldier is shot during the Vietnam war and he dies fifty years later due to sepsis from retained shrapnel, then the mortality count of the Vietnam war increases by one? Even though fifty years have passed?

Dick suddenly loops a heavy arm over his shoulder, knocking the breath out of Damian’s lungs.

“You know I will love you no matter what happens? No matter what you do?”

Blood rises to Damian’s cheeks, but he disguises his embarrassment with a huff.

“No one is dying. I don’t know why you say these things.”
