Dennis plopped down beside the man, TV remote already in hand and turning it on. He immediately clicked on BHO, a streaming service they frequently used. He frowned when a prompt message popped up instead of the usual loading screen; it read:
' Sorry. You have not renewed your subscription. Please try again later or check your account.
[ Retry ] [ Check Acc ]'
"You really can't have anything good after a shift, can't you?" Dennis grumbled at the same time he heard Jack groan beside him.
"I swear this is automatically subscribing. It's literally connected to my bank account." Jack said irritably.

Jack and Dennis just wanted to watch TV after their shifts.

"Huckleberry! Look, we should do this!" She eagerly faced her phone to Dennis.
Dennis looked over to her phone; there was a video playing, with the caption: "Letting my bridesmaids give my husband spicy polaroids during the reception". It looked like a compilation of the trend; he watched each of the grooms' reactions, each one looking flustered before hiding the photo.
He looked at Trinity, amused and blushing red. "No, Trin, absolutely not. We're not even getting married, it's just a celebration."
"But it'll be fun! I know it's not a wedding, but it might as well be! I promise I'll be the one passing it with my fellow lesbian friends" Trinity grinned wider at him.
"But—" he sighed before looking at Trinity. She was looking at him with a face that said 'you and I both know you want to do it'. He felt his face getting hotter before saying,
"Fine."

Summary
In Dennis Whitaker's world, there were heroes and anti-heroes. There are also the ordinary people and “vigilantes”. Now, people are not that interested in vigilantes, even heroes think of these people as disposables or just overall distractions.
The point is that he, actually, has the potential to be a hero. He had powers—yes, powers— but being a runaway from the countryside? Yeah, good luck because there's no goddamn way they are not finding his ass and bringing him back where he doesn't want to be.
Okay, but that wouldn't explain why Whitaker was sitting (ducking, really) under the counters as shots were fired, or maybe he should say lasers? objects were flinged? Either way, he's fucking scared for his life and doesn't know how he will explain that the windows and tables were broken or gone, and he can't sacrifice his salary to replace them.

He was already married to a man that was not his soulmate, and he had no intentions of ever giving that man up, damn what the universe said about soulmates being the perfect other half. Luckily for him, Dennis doesn't like being told what to do, and if dating both his soulmate and his soulmate's husband will help, then that's just what he'll do. Jack never thought he'd be falling in love again after his wife passed away, Robby being the exception since they were in love before he met his wife and he'd be in love long after. Now here he was, slowly falling for Robby's soulmate as the man consistently proved that he was here to stay, no matter how untraditional it made them.
